The book builds on thirty five years of author’s observation and design of post-tensioning projects
in more than 40 countries worldwide. Having met and discussed with thousands of others whose work encompasses the design or construction of post-tensioned projects, the author presents his observations and experience in a clear and concise format, highlighting the concepts and procedures that lead to good practice and economical designs.

The book comes in two editions:

  • The US Edition uses the US system of units (lb, in) along with the equivalent values in SI units
    (N, mm). It covers ACI 318/IBC and the European Code EC2
  • The International Edition covers ACI 318/IBC; EC2, and TR43 in SI (N, mm) system of units

About the author

A practicing structural engineer and software developer, Dr. Bijan O. Aalami is an internationally renowned educationalist and leader in the analysis and design of concrete structures with specialization in post-tensioning. Bijan is a Life Member of the Post-Tensioning Institute, for his decades of contribution to the post-tensioning industry; a Life Member of ASCE; honorary member of the Argentine Institute of Structural Engineers; Chartered Engineer in the UK, and a registered Structural Engineer in California. He has held educational courses on the design of post-tensioned concrete buildings and bridges throughout the United States, Canada, and over 40 other countries worldwide. He received the American Concrete Institute’s Design Award for the “application of advanced engineering to a notable concrete structure.” Bijan’s contribution to the industry was recognized through his initiation in the Hall of Fame of the Post-Tensioning Institute.

Bijan is the founder and for over 20 years led the development of the software suite ADAPT – now part of RISA – that has been serving the concrete design engineers in over 75 countries worldwide.
